Dress Code

Bonneville Academy’s dress code was created to assist the school have a fun, dynamic, consistent environment while enjoying the benefits of a uniform including improved behavior, increased security and fewer disciplinary issues. The Board of Directors does not want to put an extra burden on families by requiring students to wear specific clothing from a list of preferred providers. We reserve the right to make changes to this dress code policy as needed. Students shall dress modestly, maintain a clean, orderly, and neat appearance, and exercise good grooming and personal hygiene habits.

General

  • Clothing must cover midriff and undergarments at all times even when seated. 
  • Shorts, skirts, and dresses must rest no higher than 2” above the knee when standing unless leggings are worn. 
  • Any slits in dresses or skirts must rise no higher than 2” above the knee when standing. 
  • Leggings must be opaque, not sheer or transparent. 

The following items are NOT allowed: 

  • No hoods or hats may be worn in the building 
  • No bizarre, extreme, or distracting hairstyles 
  • No open-toed or open-heeled shoes (entire foot must be covered) 
  • No wheelie shoes 
  • No clothes and or hair accessories that may be disruptive or cause safety issues 
  • No tears, fraying, holes, or distressed clothing 
  • No clothing related to tobacco, e-cigarettes, alcohol, gang activity, or drugs is permitted 
  • No clothing that contradicts the educational mission of Bonneville Academy 
  • No clothing with writing, pictures, or any other symbols that are crude, vulgar, profane, violent, sexually suggestive, promote illegal/criminal activity, or are distracting. 
  • No gauges or chains. 
  • No halter tops, tank tops, midriffs, tube tops, or spaghetti straps 
  • No exposing of the chest; shirts need to be buttoned appropriately 
  • No Ill-fitting bottoms (cannot be too tight) 
  • No leggings or jeggings without the bottom entirely covered by a tunic top, shorts, or skirt 

Limited dress code exceptions may occur during school-approved activities and designated dress-up days. 

The final interpretation of the dress standards will be at the discretion of Bonneville Academy’s administrators. 

Students who violate dress and grooming standards will be subject to student disciplinary action. An offending student will be offered a clean t-shirt and/or sweatpants. Alternatively, parents may bring an approved change of clothes from home.
